Care Guidelines

Color & Character:

Barollo’s products are handmade, and slight differences from one shoe to another or one product to another are completely normal and acceptable in any hand crafting process. Leather, suede, exotic skins, and colored materials, which are hand-dyed or hand painted will always

differ from dye lot to dye lot, and no two skins are ever the same.

If there is a discrepancy in color, shade or texture it will be at the discretion of Barollo to allow any return, specifically related to color or texture differences. If for any reason you are not happy with the any product for any of the points mentioned, the purchaser must submit photos to Barollo prior to receiving a return authorization.

If a return authorization is granted, by Barollo, for any reason stated in this section, the customer is entitled to repair or replacement only, which is at the sole discretion of Barollo. If you did not buy your Barollo product directly from Barollo, the customer must work with the Barollo retailer where your original purchase was made.

The Barollo warranty is not a guarantee against normal wear and tear. Nor does it apply to any product that has been damaged by misuse, neglect, accident, modification or unauthorized repair.

If you believe your product is defective, please email Barollo with pictures, a detailed description of the problem and a copy of your receipt for a return authorization and Barollo will assist you with your return.

Client Responsibility

Barollo cannot be held liable for any discoloration to your clothing and/or skin or other goods if you do not take the necessary steps to protect your Barollo shoes or accessories. It is the client’s responsibility to have their products sprayed for protection prior to use and as often as necessary, as dictated by your leather care professional.

Unauthorized Modifications

Barollo never recommends the application of rubber protective soles onto Barollo shoes, as this can alter the balance of the shoe and may cause the heel to break or wear incorrectly.

Repairing heel damage, or other related damage, due to the alteration of soles, may render the repair of the shoe impossible and is not covered under the Barollo warrantee.

Repair

Barollo offers repair service for all of its products. If for any reason your Barollo product needs repair service please email Barollo to arrange for a repair and an estimate.

Barollo Care & Maintenance

Barollo uses only the highest quality leathers and materials available. Since leathers and skins are natural products there will always be slight variations in color and texture, from one skin to another and these variations should be considered normal.

To ensure that all Barollo products can be enjoyed, it is important that Barollo products are cared for and maintained properly.

Barollo recommends the following guidelines for care and maintenance:

Barollo products are not sprayed at the factory for any protection against water or other liquids, or to prevent color from transferring from the product to other fabrics or your skin. This is especially important for handbags, which can and will transfer their color from the handbag to your clothing if the handbag is not sprayed. It is therefore strongly recommended, once you receive your Barollo product you should take it to your leather care professional to have it sprayed for protection. This should be done approximately every six months or more depending on how frequently you wear or carry your Barollo product.

Leather and skins are delicate materials. Exposure to moisture, humidity and salt are especially damaging to the leather and the internal materials and accessories used to create Barollo products. Exposure to rain, snow, salt and other ice-melt chemicals can cause permanent and irreversible damage to Barollo products. Please avoid rain, snow and direct contact to salt and chemicals used to melt ice and snow.

Barollo products should never come into contact with oil, oil-based products, make-up, perfume, solvents, nail polish or nail polish remover, gasoline or other fuels, including diesel, home heating oil or kerosene.

Barollo products should never come into contact with abrasives of any type including sandpaper, nail files or other rough surfaces, like concrete or asphalt, which can cause permanent damage, like abrasions, scratches, scuffs or even holes in a shoe’s upper or damage to a handbag or accessory. The soles of all Barollo shoes are meant for normal contact with indoor and outdoor surfaces, such as asphalt and concrete and will wear down accordingly depending on their use. Normal wear and tear should be expected and is not covered by any part of the Barollo warrantee.

Barollo cannot assume responsibility for the eventual deterioration, modification or mishandling of our products from everyday wear and exposure to the elements.

Please avoid contact with any materials, which may transfer their color pigments onto your Barollo products.

Always store your products in the dust bag provided when not in use.

Prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause the product’s color to fade.

You should never store your Barollo products near a source of heat as this could cause the leather to dry out and crack.

General Characteristics of Leather

As a natural material, even the most luxurious leathers can age with time and use and need to be cared for to maintain their optimum condition. Naturally tanned leathers, with use and exposure to light will alter in color. This is considered normal and should be seen as the aging of the material, referred to as patina. Patina creates character and should be appreciated.

CLEANING & CARE

Patent Leather:

With wear, patent leather may eventually lose its glossy finish, and may wrinkle or even crack at the wrinkle seams, this is normal and should be considered the natural patina of the product, which adds to the character of the shoe or accessory.

It is possible that dye can transfer onto patent leather causing irreversible damage. Always store your product in a climate-controlled environment and avoid direct contact with colored materials.

To clean patent leather use a damp cloth to wipe the surface clear. Never use abrasives, harsh chemicals, solvents or alcohol, as it may permanently damage the high-gloss finish of the patent leather.

Nappa Leather:

Nappa is a very soft material and products made from nappa will stretch over time and with wear. Barollo recommends an allowance be made for this when selecting your size. Nappa is naturally very porous, and therefore colored creams and moisturizing agents should be avoided as these may leave marks, which are very difficult or impossible to remove.

To clean nappa leather use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the surface clear and dry immediately after. Never use abrasives, harsh chemicals, solvents or alcohol, as it may permanently damage the high-polished finish of the nappa leather.

When in doubt, always consult your local leather care professional, and always keep nappa away from moisture and heat.

Suede:

Suede is very fragile, delicate and should be sprayed with a protective barrier prior to wearing your Barollo suede shoes or carrying your Barollo handbag for the first time. It is the customer’s responsibility to you take your Barollo products to a leather care professional prior to wearing or carrying your product for the first time. If you do not spray your Barollo suede products, prior to wearing or carrying, there is a hundred percent probability the color from the suede will rub off onto any surface, including skin and clothing, which comes into direct contact with the suede. Barollo cannot be held liable for any discoloration to your clothing and/or skin or other goods, if you do not take the necessary steps to protect your Barollo shoes or accessories. It is the customer’s responsibility to have their products sprayed prior to use and as often as necessary, by a leather care professional.

Never use water or any liquids on your suede as it may cause irreversible damage to your Barollo product.

Alligator, Crocodile & Other Reptile Skins:

Alligator, crocodile and other reptile skins should be sprayed with a protective barrier prior to wearing your Barollo shoes or carrying your Barollo handbag for the first time. It is the customer’s responsibility to you take your Barollo alligator, crocodile or other reptile skin products to a leather care professional prior to wearing or carrying them for the first time. If you do not spray your Barollo reptile skin products, prior to wearing or carrying them, there is a very strong probability the color from the skin will rub off onto any surface, including skin and clothing coming into direct contact with the skin of the Barollo product.

Never use water or any liquids on your reptile skin as it may cause irreversible damage to your Barollo product. Never use household chemicals, alcohol, or other solvents to clean your alligator, crocodile or reptile leather. These harsh cleaning and/or conditioning products may destroy the finish on any reptile leather.

Never expose alligator, crocodile or other reptile skin to direct heat or moisture. If the skin becomes wet from direct exposure to water, wipe the water from the surface of the skin immediately as this may cause permanent damage to the skin.

If the skin becomes wet, it is possible to use a small fan to allow room temperature air to flow over the skin helping the skin to dry slowly, after removing the excess water with a dry, absorbent cloth. Once the skin appears to be dry, apply leather conditioner to all exposed leather as directed by the instructions on the product. Apply the leather conditioner again in a day or two and your alligator, crocodile or other reptile leather should remain serviceable. Once the leather cracks, it is too late to repair the skin.

Note: Reptile leather requires maintenance to replenish the natural oils. If you use a protective spray to shield your alligator, crocodile or other reptile skin from water and other liquids it will be difficult or impossible to apply leather conditioner onto your reptile skin. It is therefore suggested that when you first receive your Barollo reptile skin product you take it to a leather care professional to have it sprayed for protection. As this protective layer wears off, from general use, it is mandatory that you return your leather care professional to have the product conditioned and then re-sprayed for protection. This should be done a minimum of two times or more per year, depending on use, and done in coordination with your leather care professional

Silk Satin: Dyeable

Barollo duchesse silk satin is 100% natural silk, and is designed to be tinted by a shoe dying professional, therefore the fabric is highly absorbent and easily damaged by exposure to any liquid of any type, other than the proper tinting or dying chemicals. It is therefore critically important to have your silk products dyed prior to wearing them and then apply a protective spray coating on the products after the desired color is achieved and the dye is 100% dry. The dying and the protective spray coating must be applied by a trained shoe care professional.

For any necessary cleaning please take your silk products to a shoe or leather care professional.

Silk Satin: Colored

Barollo duchesse silk satin is 100% natural silk, and has been died at the factory. All silk is highly absorbent and easily damaged by exposure to any liquid of any type. It is therefore critically important to have your silk products sprayed with a protective coating to protect the surface from liquids and other exposure from normal wear. The protective spray coating must be applied by a trained shoe care professional and done at least two times a year or as directed by your local leather care professional.

For any necessary cleaning please take your silk products to a shoe or leather care professional.

Synthetic Satin:

First use a dry cloth to gently wipe all dust and dirt off of the shoes. If you do not wipe down the shoes first, you could rub even more dirt into the fabric, causing widespread staining on the satin.

Dampen a clean lint-free cloth with cold water and blot the satin heel with the cloth, starting with the stains at the top. Do not soak the cloth. Dab the cloth downward, following the grain of the fabric. Clean any visible dirt spots or stains around the entire shoe, making sure to dab rather than rub the fabric as you may cause abrasions or pulling of the fabric.

Dry your satin immediately with a lint-free cloth. Blot and dab the moisture from the satin. Do not rub the satin material, because water streaks could form and you may damage the fabric.

If water alone does not remove the stains, use a small bit of gentle, fragrance-free and dye-free, delicate laundry detergent to remove deeper stains.

Add a very small amount of the detergent to a small glass and stir into a soapy lather with bubbles. Use the bubbles and a small amount of the soapy liquid to dampen the cloth. Rub the cloth together to form a slight lather. Note: If the dirt and grime dissipated with water alone, do not use soap on your synthetic satin.

Clean the dirt or mud stains only. Do not use the soap on clean portions of the satin material. Inspect the entire satin shoe and blot each spot. Immediately rinse with cold water from a clean lint free cloth. DO NOT RINSE THE SHOE DIRECTLY WITH WATER.

Soap residue can stain satin, so you want to completely remove it. Pat the spotted areas with a wet cloth. Apply light pressure to eliminate the soap.

Use a lint-free cloth to spot-dry the damp parts. Never let satin shoes air dry. Water spots and streaks are common on satin material. If you cannot get all the water out with a towel, use a blow dryer, on the lowest heat setting, or a small fan to gently dry the fabric.

If you have any questions about the care or cleaning of your leather products please consult your local leather care professional, so they can assess the situation with a visual inspection of your product. In the event your local leather care professional cannot clean your Barollo product, please contact Barollo for cleaning and reconditioning services. Depending on the age of the product reconditioning services may or may not be available for your product.
